Be Perfect!
It is true that no one can be perfect. But why emphasize that? Why not just aim for perfection and let the chips fall where they may? Why not just be understanding when you are not perfect and forgive yourself when you make mistakes?
Then learn from them so that you do not repeat them. You will feel great about yourself for aiming for perfection and
the right people will respect you for setting such a high goal. However,
it is important to set that goal for yourself, and not to impress others.
Some people may also be jealous of you if you have that goal and are that
positive, or intimidated by the success it brings you. It will also make
some people point out how you are not perfect. But this is good!!! It
will help you to improve if you can humbly accept valid criticism and see
what you can learn from it.
We would rather be perfect
than be the best. We freely admit that we are neither. However, we could be
the best at something one day and then sit back and stop improving. This
will not be good because we will not achieve our potential. We also do not
want to be called the best because it places pressure on us to maintain that
rank, and that rank is dependent upon others not improving. Putting down,
impeding or hurting others would help us to be the best. This is a selfish
goal and a bad thing!!!
On a team at work for
instance, if our goal was to be the best, we would then not help teammates
because others might stop calling us the best when those teammates achieved
more than us.
This would hurt the whole
team! However, if everyone tries their best to be perfect, helping others is
included and everyone will benefit. It a good thing to strive for
perfection, because it motivates us to keep working to improve.
Think about it: You will perform better
with perfection as your goal, because if you aim for 100% you might get 90%. But if you aim for a pass - 50% - you might get 40% and fail. Do you really want to fail? If not, why not aim for
perfection?
