If you are unemployed why not hire yourself? If you are employed you can still hire yourself. If YOU do not think you are good enough to hire yourself, who else do you expect to hire you? You can start your own company whether you are employed or not.

Starting a company when you are employed if you are able to (due to contract stipulations at your current job) is much easier, because you will have an income to run it at a loss.

Many companies lose money on projects for years to stay successful for years. In many countries, you can write off losses in the first years that your business operates. You can ask an accountant what the rules are where you live.

You could establish a great customer base by charging less than the competition that is trying to make a profit immediately. You have likely received free goods in the mail from companies that have what are called "loss leaders" - items offered for sale below cost to attract customers.

You can run the company in your spare time until it grows to a size and profitability that allows you to dedicate more time to it.

WRITE A BUSINESS PLAN

You can write a business plan and pitch it to people if you have no money. Having a business plan ready and proofed is the key to starting a successful company quickly. If you get laid off, fired or decide to quit and feel like working for yourself, you will be ready! So why not start today if you want to be entrepreneurial, by thinking about what business would be right for you?

Even if it takes a long time you can retire early as a consultant and write a book. If you spend your whole life studying in your spare time and becoming an expert in a particular field that interests you, you would have a lot of valuable knowledge to share. You have some gift to offer this world, why not open it and share it? If it is a present indeed, why wait until the future to open it? If you give it to the world now, for giving you will receive satisfaction from giving in the future. There is plenty of information on how to write a business plan available for free on the Internet. YOU COULD HAVE YOUR OWN WEB SITE

You could have a web site (you could start one for free - there are many free options online) and if people find the information valuable eventually you could be the specialist they interview when they have a show on your area of specialty. Imagine yourself being introduced, "To add some perspective on this topic we have as a guest today who is an author and consultant with 20 years of experience in the field..." That could be you one day!!! Every successful business person was a beginner once without any business experience. There was a time that every great and well-learned professor or consultant or industry expert listened to or read advice from others...like you are doing right now!!! None of the people that did nothing with the knowledge they heard or read became experts. The choice is yours. What would you like to be?
